Beautifully engineered , the last in the era when Mercedes was fabled for its build quality the ( 124 series ) 320 Cabrio in Sportline was the top of the range and the last 'proper' four seater convertable made by Mercedes following on from the earlier 1960's 300 Cabrio which are now so highly valued in their most powerful form. Its £ 37, 000 purchase price when new also ensured its exclusivity , then and now ! Cabrio's were produced from 1993 to 1997 but only a few were equipped with the Sportline pack ( only 557 E320's were imported to Britain and Ireland in total ) which comprised lowered and stiffened suspension and slightly wider tyres . When the hood is raised it is as effective as the Coupe , being extremely quiet and comfortable . The car featured rear headrests which instantly pop up to act as a Roll over protection system which allows the Cabrio to be completely open from the waistline without a B pillar or roll bar hoop. Handsome lines , refinement and a beautifully appointed interior makes these a super car to use and the larger 6 cylinder 320 model is the most sought after , especially in Sportline trim .
